Product Description

The set includes 55 dragonfly wooden pegs and 10 wool felt leaves numbered 1 to 10.

Pincer grip (the ability to use the thumb and index finger to grasp an object) is an important fine motor skill development. Wooden peg activities exercise pincer grip that prepares the child to hold a pencil, which requires muscle development and control, coordination, purposeful movement. Dr. Montessori believed that exercising these muscles can help the child hold the pencil properly and so prevent him from becoming fatigued easily when he writes.

What they are learning WHILE having fun:
– Counting 1 – 10
Learn counting 1 to 10 with the dragonfly pegs.  Work with kid by counting the first three numbers at one sitting starting from 1 to 3.  Go to the next three only after he is familiar with the previous numbers.
For the last four of 7 to 10, you may do it with him in one go or two depending on his progress and ability.

– Associate Numerals to Counters (the pegs)
Show and say the numeral 1 on the leaf to the kid, and invite him to put the peg next to it by counting.  Do the same with other numerals. Work with him three numerals at one sitting.  Repeat the previous three every time you start showing him the next three until he covers all ten numerals.

– Reverse Association
This time you put out certain numbers of pegs and ask the kid to count.  Then invite him to pick the numeral for them, e.g. put 4 next to four pegs, 6 to six…etc.

– Pincer Grip Movement
At the age of 2.5 and up, kids can practise the pincer grip movement by using his thumb and index finger to press open the wooden pegs. Soon after they can master this movement, they can try clipping them on to the wool felt leaves.

– Extension activity
Count and clip the pegs on to the corresponding numbered wool felt leaves.
This game is great for developing concentration and fine motor skill. Kids can also develop their own open end play with these gadgets through which curiosity, exploration, creativity and imagination are stimulated.
